Feng-shui is the ancient Chinese art of balancing energies to bring greater efficiency and good luck to your life. Chi, the positive energy is called the Breath of the Universe, the giving energy, while the destructive negative energy is Sha. These energies flow through the five basic elements of our world, Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal. By arranging these elements in the correct order, harmony and prosperity will occur. If they are not working together properly, these elements bring destruction and disaster. There are many kinds of Feng Shui objects which can divert Sha, such as mirrors, and disperse Chi, such as crystals. Hanging metal objects, like chimes will attract Chi to an area.
This instrument is used to work out the best feng shui positions. In the centre is a Chinese compass, pointing south as all Chinese compass's have for over a thousand years. As north to the Chinese represents cold, evil, and negatism, it would have been logical to make compasses marked to point south.
The picture shows front and back - with Ying and Yang symbol. Made from wood and brass.
